How to disable port 8443 on NuGenesis LMS servers - WKB223473

Article number: 223473

OBJECTIVE or GOAL

Prevent NuGenesis LMS servers from listening on TCP/IPv4 port 8443.

ENVIRONMENT

  • NuGenesis 9.0, 9.1, 9.2 LMS
  • Does NOT apply to NuGenesis 9.3

PROCEDURE

  1. Open the following file in Notepad (recommend running Notepad as administrator):
    • Drive:\WatersLMSServer\WildFly-11.0.0.Final\standalone\configuration\nugenesis-lms.xml
  2. Delete or comment out the following lines. They should be below the <server name="default-server"> tag:
    • <https-listener name="https" socket-binding="https" security-realm="ApplicationRealm" enable-http2="true"/>
  3. Save and close the file.
  4. Restart the service "NuGenesis LMS Server".

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

NuGenesis 9.3 does make use of port 8443, therefore this port cannot be disabled in v9.3 and later versions.

NuGenesis LMS versions 9.0 through 9.2 do not use the secure HTTPS port 8443 for communications with the LMS server; however, the LMS server listens on this port by default. If the server is unable to listen on this port, the server will not start, and users cannot log in to NuGenesis LMS.
