How to change the FTP storage path for a NuGenesis Managed Storage location - WKB19658

Article number: 19658

OBJECTIVE or GOAL

Define best practices for moving the SDMS Managed Storage files from one path to another.  Often this process is started as part of a NuGenesis upgrade/migration process, or when the storage system backing the FTP site/OSM device is upgraded and given a new path.

ENVIRONMENT

  • NuGenesis 8 SDMS
  • NuGenesis 9 SDMS

PROCEDURE

  1. Stop the Microsoft FTP Service on the FTP server
  2. Use a tool to calculate file hashes for every file in the Managed Storage FTP site
  3. Use a robust file copy tool, such as RoboCopy, to replicate the current folder structure of the FTP storage path in the new storage path
  4. Calculate file hashes for every file in the new location
  5. Compare the file hashes and proceed with the rest of the process only if there are NO discrepancies in the file hashes
  6. In IIS Manager, select the Managed Storage FTP site, and click the "Basic settings" link
  7. Set the Physical Path to the UNC path for the new storage location
    • Example: \\newServer\SDMSdata
  8. Click OK
  9. Restart the Microsoft FTP Service
