How do I create an ObsoletePaths.txt file for NuGenesis Data Management? - WKB17448

Article number: 17448

ENVIRONMENT

  • NuGenesis 9 SDMS
  • NuGenesis 8 SDMS

ANSWER

  1. Create a new file in Notepad.
  2. Enter the computer path to be updated. Example: \\testmachine\update
  3. Save the new file as ObsoletePaths.txt.
  4. Move the ObsoletePaths.txt file into the \RPC folder on the File Capture agent that archived the data. Entries are case-sensitive in this file.
    • NuGenesis 8: Drive:\Program Files (x86)\NuGenesis 8.0\RPC
    • NuGenesis 9: Drive:\Program Files (x86)\Waters\NGSDMS\RPC
  5. Log in to the NuGenesis SCC Manager.
  6. Stop and start the Data Management module.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

NuGenesis Data Management compares each line in the ObsoletePaths.txt against the path of data files archived. Data Files archived by NuGenesis that are candidates for Data Management will be updated by the entry in ObsoletePath.txt file.

Examples of lines in the ObsoletePaths.txt file:

File path at top level:
\\testmachine is a top-level folder and Data Management updates all candidates in the path.
Data Management would update a file with the path of \\testmachine\folder1\foo.txt

Path at lower level
\\testmachine\folder1

Data Management would update a file with the path of \\testmachine\folder1\foo.txt
Data Management does not update a file with the path of \\testmachine\folder2\foo.txt

Paths in the ObsoletePaths.txt are case-sensitive.

NOTE:  You cannot specify paths to an individual file(s) in ObsoletePaths.txt   You can only specify the path to folder where that file resides, which means that DMM will mark as deleted and skip ALL files within the folder specified.

Enhancement request CRI-5729 to request a user interface for the ObsoletePaths.txt file.
