Can the contents of the NuGenesis LMS client's ExpCache folder be deleted when the user logs out? - WKB11652

Article number: 11652

ENVIRONMENT

  • NuGenesis 9 LMS
  • NuGenesis 8 LMS
  • NuGenesis 8 ELN

ANSWER

Yes, the contents of the LMS client's cache folder (ExpCache) can be deleted when the user logs out.

The ExpCache folder is kept in the user profile folder; specifically, in %APPDATA%\Waters\NuGenesis LMS\VersionNo.  This path maps to C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Waters\NuGenesis LMS, on a single-user PC or VM.  In a multi-user system, such as Citrix, the path could be different, particularly if User Profile Redirection (or similar technologies) are used. If users access LMS through a Citrix server, then the ExpCache folder is on the Citrix server, or in a central profile storage server, depending upon the profile management parameters within Citrix.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

The NuGenesis LMS client uses a number of cache folders for temporary files. Many of these files, while temporary in nature, are not deleted by the client. In a Citrix environment, user profiles are stored centrally and copied over to the client machine on login. The orphaned files in these folders can lead to long login times for users.

Here is a list of cached folders used by the NuGenesis LMS client:

  • Audit Trail: holds copies of HTML audit trail reports received from the ELN/LMS server.
  • Copy Entries: used with copy-paste entries in the document editor.
  • ELNPaint: temporary data used by the Paint application in ELN.
  • ExpCache: primary folder for contents of ELN documents. The latest version of each section of a document is stored here when the document is opened. All versions of all sections are stored when you invoke the History view.
  • GridReport: temp files for audit reports invoked by right-clicking Report on the data tables in ELN.
  • ObjectVO: temp files for sections. Files are created when editing section templates in Section Management or adding a section to a document. Not all temp files created here are automatically deleted.
  • OpenAttachments: hold copies of files opened as ELN section attachments.
  • Pdf reports: stores copies of PDF reports request through the application.
  • Recover: auto-recover data; created if the "Use auto recovery" user preference is set and if the user opens a section. The temp file created here is deleted if the external app closes without error.
  • ResultObject: holds chromatograms as retrieved through the Empower browser.
  • ResultVO: section templates.
  • TemplCache: temporary copies of LMS document templates. Files are created here when you edit a document template or create a document based on a template. Delete files by opening and closing the Template Editor in the client.
