Are two separate calibrations needed when using both regulated and nonregulated users in MassLynx Security? - WKB57857

ANSWER

Ideally, Yes. However, the alternative it to link the calibration file to a tune file on the other mode.

You cannot open a tune file in regulated mode and try and link to an unregulated cal file, because you get a tamper warning. That is because the cal file does not have a checksum.

But you can logon in regulated mode, copy the unregulated cal file to some regulated project and import the project, thus validating the cal file. You can then link the cal file to a regulated tune file. Then, as long as you don’t click on Intellistart, the ‘imported’ cal file that was generated in unregulated mode will always be used.
If you click on intellistart at any time in regulated mode, the calibration will be cleared, because there’s no valid Intellistart calibration for regulated mode. You would then need to re-open the tune file that had the linked calibration so that the 'imported' calibration would be re-loaded.

However, it makes more sense to run the calibration in regulated mode. Then you can logon in unregulated mode and link the regulated cal file to an unregulated tune file, and there’s no need to fiddle about importing files.
Again, if you click on intellistart at any time in unregulated mode, the calibration will be cleared, as there’s no valid Intellistart calibration for unregulated mode.

We do recommend that customers should carefully document and record what they do, so that they can show the system is ‘in control’.

Summary: as an alternative to calibrating the instrument twice, you can calibrate in regulated mode, link the resulting calibration file to an unregulated tune file, and then open the tune file, thus utilizing the regulated calibration in unregulated mode.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Remember that you must log off and exit MassLynx when switching between regulated and non-regulated users.
