SYMPTOMS

• "The file is missing field index which must be present" error message when importing worksheet into MassLynx

ENVIRONMENT

• MassLynx

CAUSE

The importing file type was set to default (.csv).

FIX or WORKAROUND

Set the importing file type to Tab Delimited.txt.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

The same error occurs if:

A txt file being imported was saved with UTF-8 or Unicode encoding. The txt file needs to be saved with ANSI encoding.

An Excel .csv file being imported has been saved with the format ‘CSV UTF-8 (comma delimited)'. The file needs to be saved as 'CSV (Comma Delimited)'.
