ProteinLynx Global Server MSe processes slowly: Purge required - WKB5380

Article number: 5380

This article is part of a troubleshooting path. If the symptoms below do not precisely match your issue, or if the solution does not fix the issue, consider starting at the beginning of the path using this link.

SYMPTOMS

  • PLGS takes a very long time to process spectra
  • PLGS takes a very long time to run searches

ENVIRONMENT

  • ProteinLynx Global Server 3.0

  • ProteinLynx Global Server 3.0.1

  • ProteinLynx Global Server 3.0.2

  • ProteinLynx Global Server 3.0.3

CAUSE

The database is bloated with accumulated, partially deleted samples, libraries, and/or methods.

Deleted workflows, projects, and other items are not deleted immediately because that can take a while. Instead, they removed from the browser and marked for deletion from the relational database. They are completely removed only when the database is purged. Because the entire database is loaded into RAM when PLGS is opened, deleted but unpurged files still consume memory. If there are a lot of items that haven't been purged, this can consume memory and slow down PLGS 3.0.

FIX or WORKAROUND

Purge the database to remove deleted files.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Purging can take time if there are a lot of delete items that haven't been purged. While the database is being purged, you cannot use PLGS. It is therefore recommended that you carry out frequent and regular database purges.

Many factors can contribute to slow PLGS 3 MSe data processing. Several of these issues may occur simultaneously, slowing processing down even more. If the solution described above does not help, try the other solutions, either on their own or in combination with this solution.
