MassLynx does not determine if File Name contains illegal characters before running - WKB247173

Article number: 247173

SYMPTOMS

  • Issue when importing sample list information into MassLynx
  • When MassLynx sample list details are copied and pasted into a new list, or if the sample list details are imported, the File Name cells are not checked before saving
  • If File Name contains illegal characters (spaces or full stops/periods), they are not detected
(see article Which characters cannot be used in file names in MassLynx? - WKB2435
  • Data folders (.raw) were created for each sample and each sample injected, but no data was acquired to folders (the .DAT file is only 2 KB)
  • MassLynx data acquired with bad file names is not collected correctly, but there are no error messages

ENVIRONMENT

  • MassLynx

CAUSE

Software bug—MassLynx does not validate the page before saving. It validates the cell only when directly edited (that is, validation occurs only when the cursor has been active in a cell and is then moved to another cell. When the cell is validated correctly, there is an error message: "Invalid filename extension. Ignoring changes to this field".

FIX or WORKAROUND

Fixed in SCN 1045.
For earlier versions: Ensure that file names contain only allowed characters:  abcdefghijklmnopqrstuvwxyzABCDEFGHIJKLMNOPQRSTUVWXYZ1234567890_
