No communication to Xevo G2-S Tof after Windows Updates applied - WKB18477

Article number: 18477

SYMPTOMS

  • After a PC reboot due to application of Windows Updates, there is no communication with the instrument.

ENVIRONMENT

  • MassLynx 4.1
  • Xevo G2-S Tof
  • ACQUITY UPLC H-Class

CAUSE

Improper reboot after updates.

FIX or WORKAROUND

  1. Exit all programs.
  2. Run the Stopacquityprocesses.cmd file found in C:\Program Files (x86)\Waters Instruments\bin.
  3. Shut down the PC.
  4. Turn off the ACQUITY stack.
  5. Wait at least 30 seconds before turning on the PC. Wait for PC to boot up.
  6. Log in to your Windows account. Allow it to completely boot up, with the mouse idle.
  7. Turn on your SM first (because this is typically the piece that has all of the Ethernet connections plugged into it).
  8. Wait a few moments before turning on your other ACQUITY modules.
  9. Wait for the SM and BSM to complete their initialization routines. You should see a solid green power light when completed.
  10. Go to the back of the MS and put the system into pump override. Then turn off the electronics switch.
  11. Leaving the system in override, wait about 30 seconds before turning on the electronics switch.
  12. Go to the Windows Start menu and type in Run.
  13. Click on the Run program to start this.  Then in the Open field, type in the following:  ping epc -t
  14. Hit enter or OK, this will open a PING.exe window.  Maximize the size of this window to fill your monitor. Once you get an entire monitor’s worth of replies from the EPC, close the Ping window and start up MassLynx.
  15. Verify that MassLynx starts properly. If the system is communicating, switch the pump override switch back to the Auto position.
