"Failed to run Analytical Component Engine" error when launching MassLynx - WKB111389

SYMPTOMS

• "Failed to run Analytical Component Engine" error message when launching MassLynx
• Inlet method does not open when clicking on the lozenge under the Instrument shortcut
• Inlet method does not open when right-clicking on a cell in the Inlet Method column in the sample list and selecting Edit from the pop-up menu

ENVIRONMENT

• MassLynx

CAUSE

Some type of corruption in the links between the InletEditor.exe file and the main MassLynx user interface (Sample List and Shortcut menus)

FIX or WORKAROUND

1. Open the Task Manager (right-click on the Task bar at the bottom of the desktop and select Task manager from the menu.
2. On the Processes tab, locate the InletKernal and the InletEditor processes. Highlight each in turn and select the Stop Process button in the lower-right corner.
3. Browse to the C:\Masslynx folder.
4. Locate the InletKernel.exe file. Double-click on the file.
5. Locate the InletEditor.exe file. Double-click on the file.
6. From the InletEditor, go to File > Open and open the Default inlet method for the specific configuration.
7. Create a new Inlet Method file using the Default inlet method as a template.
