Article number: 288005

OBJECTIVE or GOAL

System Policies for New Projects

ENVIRONMENT

  • Empower
  • Empower Tip of the Week #380

PROCEDURE

System Policies for New Projects only affect new projects that are created. These do not affect existing projects.

STEP 1
Let’s look at the Default Full Audit Trail settings first (figure 1).

  • Full Audit Trail Support – with this policy enabled, anytime someone creates a new project it will have a Project Audit Trail.
  • Default Full Audit Trails Table – select whether a comment is required for Methods, Results, Samples and/or Deletion. For example, if you create or modify a Method, you may be required to enter a comment as to the reason why you performed this action.

STEP 2
The choices for comments are as follows (figure 2).

  • Silent – no comment needed
  • Unrestricted – enter text
  • Restricted – pick from a list of pre-defined comments (more about this in steps 4-6).

NOTE: If Confirm Identity is selected, the User will need to enter their Empower password after the action is performed.

STEP 3
The selections below the table are as follows (figure 3).

  • Don't allow user to change default Full Audit Trail Support setting – if this is enabled the User cannot change the Full Audit Trail Support selection made in Step 1, bullet 1.
  • Don't allow user to change default 'Require User Comments On' settings – if this is enabled the User cannot change the selections made in Step 1, bullet 2.
  • Don't allow user to copy from non-FAT projects into FAT projects – if this is enabled the User cannot copy data from a project without an Audit Trail into a project which has an Audit Trail.
  • Allow shallow copies between FAT projects – if this is enabled only the latest version of a method is copied between projects which have Audit Trails.

STEP 4
In Step 2, pre-defined comments have been mentioned which are called Default Strings. To create a Default String, go to Configuration Manager and select Default Strings from the View menu (figure 4).

STEP 6
Click ‘Add String’ to open a dialogue box into which you enter the text. Click ‘OK’ and this comment will now be available when you create or modify a Processing Method in the project (figure 6).
