Empower 3.8.0: Storing LC Column Information - Tip349
OBJECTIVE or GOAL
Store LC column information in Empower.
ENVIRONMENT
- Empower
- Empower Tip of the Week #349
PROCEDURE
Depending on the type of column you are using, eCord™, eConnect™, or other, information from the column can either be automatically read and stored or specified manually.
STEP 1
In Configuration Manager, click on Columns in the tree on the left. One of the fields in the table is called Column Detect. Information from eCord and eConnect columns is automatically detected and stored in Empower (Figure 1).
STEP 2
In this example, we have an eConnect column installed in an Alliance iS. We see 13 fields of information that are automatically read and permanently stored in Empower. These fields include Name, Part Number, and Serial Number (Figure 2).
STEP 3
If you click on the column in the tree on the left, the table displays the Sample Sets that have been collected on this column (Figure 3).
STEP 4
Right-click on a Sample Set and select View As Sample Set (Figure 4).
STEP 5
This opens the project where the Sample Set is stored. This works for eCord columns as well (Figure 5).
STEP 6
Within the project you can create view filters to include things such as Detected Column Name and Detected Column Serial Number. There are up to six fields of column information for eConnect and eCord columns stored in the project. When the Sample Set, Injection, or Channel is processed, you can include the column information in the Report Method. This provides absolute traceability as to which column was used without user intervention (Figure 6).
STEP 7
Although not unique to Empower version 3.8.0, you have the ability to specify Column Name and Column Serial Number in the Sample Set Method. These are default sample fields that are provided with older versions of Empower. The Column Name field is a sample custom field, data type Enumerated. You can modify the existing list to include the columns in your laboratory (Figure 7).
