OBJECTIVE or GOAL

Exploring and Defining Different Types of Processing Methods

ENVIRONMENT

  • Empower
  • Empower Tip of the Week #320

PROCEDURE

Step 1
You can create a Processing Method from the Method tab in the Project window (figure 1).

Step 2
I recommend creating the Processing Method in Review along with representative data which makes peak integration and identification easier (figure 2).

Step 3
The first selection is the Processing Method Type. There is a list of different Processing Types, and the selection depends on the type of data you are working with (figure 3).
Figure_3.png

Step 4
The availability of Processing Method Types is dependent on two things: 1) Is the option installed in the Empower system? and 2) Has the option been enabled in the Project? (figure 4).

Step 5
Once the type has been selected, select the Integration Algorithm, either Traditional or ApexTrack (figure 5).

Step 6
The availability of ApexTrack is dependent on two things: 1) Is it enabled in the System Policies on the Data Processing tab? and 2) Has it been enabled in the Project? (figure 6).

Step 7
Some methods call for an internal standard which is in a separate channel from the channel of interest. In those cases, you can create the Processing Method with the Wizard and select Include a Cross Channel Internal Standard (figure 7).

Step 8
A table summarizing the different types of Processing Methods which can be created, along with the type of data appropriate to those methods and where differences will be seen is shown in figure 8.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

  • Both Tangential and Exponential Skims can skim a rider either from the front of the main peak or the back of the main peak.
  • This can be done with either the Pro or QuickStart interface.
