Does Empower require the Windows Internet Name Service? - WKB87597
ENVIRONMENT
- Empower
- Windows Internet Name Service (WINS)
- DNS
ANSWER
No.
Windows Internet Name Service (WINS) is a legacy computer name registration and resolution service that maps computer NetBIOS names to IP addresses. Empower installations expect the underlying network to run DNS.
The Empower installation, configuration and upgrade guide (715005081) specifies that the following services be activated to allow network discovery and client-server communication. They also allow file and printer sharing on an Empower workstation.
Change the startup type to Automatic and start these services:
- DNS Client
- Function Discovery Resource Publication
- SSDP Discovery
- UPnP Device Host
