Project integrity in Empower passed, but there is a "data missing" error in the sample set - WKB87588
SYMPTOMS
- Project integrity in Empower passed, but there is a "data missing" error and an instrument failure reported
- File size of the channel reporting "data missing" is 1 KB
- If using Empower 3 Feature Release 5, the error shows "problem reading data file" instead of "data missing"
ENVIRONMENT
- Empower, all versions
CAUSE
The integrity check is not supposed to be used to check if there is data in the data file. The integrity check reads the entire data file to verify its integrity by calculating its CRC (Cyclic Redundancy Check). It verifies that the CRC of the data file has not changed since it was acquired.
Also, Integrity errors can occur when channel status is incomplete because of PC shutdown/restart or application crashes from operating system or Empower. The file may be flagged as incomplete if Empower was unable to calculate CRC for the file because of a sudden interruption of the sequence.
FIX or WORKAROUND
CRI -1393 was logged for an enhancement request.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
A new Channel Status field has been added that allows the user to display whether no data was acquired into the file.
By definition, Data integrity is the maintenance of and the assurance of the accuracy and consistency of data over its entire life cycle. The integrity check is not a check to see if the expected data is all there. It is a check to ensure that the data file was not modified or damaged since it was acquired. The user can check the new Channel Status field to see if data was acquired into the file.
