Why are there 1KB *.dat files left in the InstrumentServer directory on a LAC/E? - WKB78912

Article number: 78912

ENVIRONMENT

  • Empower

ANSWER

Empower writes *.dat files in the \Empower\InstrumentServer\SYSTEM NAME\EMPOWER DATABASE NAME\PROJECT NAME directory as part of normal operation.

- e.g. C:\Empower\InstrumentServer\HPLC1\WAT19\ProjectA

*.dat file names correspond with the channel ID in the Empower database for the associated project.

- e.g. Channel ID 2468 in an Empower project should have a corresponding file in the project folder on the raw data share named d2468.dat.

*.dat files remaining on the LAC/E that are displayed as 1KB in size are typically the result of an aborted injection or, an injection that did not occur as a result of an instrument failure. These files are not removed automatically by Empower and will remain there indefinitely unless manually removed.

Prior to removing these files manually, one should verify there is no corresponding channel of data in the associated Empower project.

- e.g. if there a 1KB file named d1357.dat in the InstrumentServer directory on the LAC/E, one should review the appropriate Empower project to determine if channel ID 1357 exists.

If there is a corresponding channel in the Empower project, one should verify there is a file with expected name in the project folder on the raw data share.

- e.g. Channel ID 1357 in a project should have a matching data file named d1357.dat in the associated project directory on the raw data server.
