How does the Empower Inventory Viewer (EIV) work? - WKB74311

Article number: 74311

ENVIRONMENT

  • Empower Inventory Viewer
  • Empower Enterprise
  • Empower Workgroup

ANSWER

The EIV Data Collector is installed and configured on a single Empower node with local administrator permissions for all nodes being queried and, when run, polls all of the nodes that are registered in the Empower Oracle database. It pings the nodes one at a time to see if they are available and then runs four processes through port 38038 to collect data for each node. It creates text output for each process, parses the data, and consolidates it into a single XML file for reading in the Empower Inventory Viewer.

The four processes that are run:

1 - Empower's Verify files, which connects to the Empower Oracle database

2 - Systeminfo, which gathers Windows information and a list of installed programs

3 - Regedit, which collects information from the Windows Registry

4 - Collects the content of the Empower Acquisition Server's (LAC/E32) instsrv.dat file containing chromatographic system configuration information

This sequential process can be evaluated by reviewing the DataCollectorLog.log and AuditLog.log files found at C:\ProgramData\DataCollectorLogs on the node where the EIV is installed. When run, the Data Collection process can take minutes to several hours depending on the number and location of nodes in the environment.
