How does Empower calculate amounts? - WKB6402
ENVIRONMENT
- Empower
ANSWER
The software generates a calibration curve for each standard component listed in the Components table. The user enters amounts for standards. When these standards are run, Empower creates a calibration curve (when external calibration is used) using the given amounts and the response from the detector (area). The response from the detector is based on peak area, peak height, or another another peak value (including a custom peak value). When the unknowns are run, Empower determines the unknown amounts by comparing the response of the unknowns to the response of the standards. Empower plots the response of the unknown on the calibration curve and then draws a line down to determine an x value, which, if the user so chooses, is the amount. There are three calibration curve fit types: Linear, Non-Linear and Forced-Through-Zero. During quantitation, the software calculates the amount, or concentration, of the unknown sample from the calibration curve. It uses the response of the sample to find the x value that corresponds to the amount or concentration. It then displays the final component amount in the Peaks tab of the Main and Results windows of Review.
