What's the difference between "The object invoked has disconnected from its clients" and "The remote procedure call failed"? - WKB51899

Article number: 51899

ENVIRONMENT

  • Empower 3

ANSWER

“Remote procedure call failed” errors are the result of a temporary loss of network connectivity on the file server side. Either the server was rebooted or the communication between the LAC/E and the server was down for a short amount of time. It is also possible that the file server ran out of space. Data buffering should have initiated as expected.

“Object invoked has disconnected from its clients” errors refer to the WatersService DCOM interface. "Its clients” are any of the Empower clients and LAC/Es that are trying to read/write files to the file server.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

The C:\Empower\InstrumentServer\recover.log file is where you find messages like "Unable to write remote file because the object invoked has disconnected from its clients" or "Unable to write remote file because the remote procedure call failed". Check the DCOM settings. The manual upload using the Instrumentserver -recover command may work without the correct DCOM settings when automatic uploads does not.
