How to derive a channel in Empower. - WKB3852

OBJECTIVE or GOAL

This procedure is used to extract a two-dimensional chromatogram from a three-dimensional acquisition. This is useful when only 3D data was originally acquired by the PDA detector.

ENVIRONMENT

• Empower
• Empower 2
• Empower 3

PROCEDURE

1. Open the Method Set used to acquire the data.
2. Ensure that the Instrument Method listed at the top is a PDA method.
3. Go to the top and choose "File - Create New Derived Channel".
4. In the window that opens, click the Channel dropdown.
5. Select "PDA: Single Wavelength".
6. Enter the wavelength you wish to view.
7. Click "OK" at the bottom of the window.
8. Specify a name for this channel.
9. Click "OK" at the bottom of the window.
10. You will now see the channel listed in the table at the center of the Method Set Editor window.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

You may choose a different option in step 5 above. For instance, you could select to extract an MS TIC rather than a PDA single wavelength, if you had collected MS data to begin with.
