Does Empower software ever update the Channel Status from its original value? - WKB271851

Article number: 271851

ENVIRONMENT

  • Empower 3 FR4 SR3 and higher versions

ANSWER

Scenario 1

If during data acquisition an instrument failure, power failure, or other error occurs that abruptly stops acquisition, the resulting Channel Status typically remains at "Data Being Acquired". This occurs because the data was in the status of "Data Being Acquired" at the time the problem occurred and the error/failure prevented Empower from transitioning the channel to the appropriate status. In this scenario, when this data is read by Empower during data processing, displaying the data in Review, Preview, Compare, and so on, Empower will automatically transition the Channel Status to either "No Data Acquired" (if fewer than two data points are present) or "Data Incomplete". The Channel Status is set to "Data Incomplete" because a problem occurred preventing the data file (.dat file) from being completed and closed properly. Data is then visible and usable in Review after a privileged user performs the Verify Incomplete Data process.

Scenario 2

In rare circumstances, at the end of acquiring an injection when the data (.dat) file is being completed and closed by Empower, a temporary WAN condition can prevent the data file's checksum from being properly written. If this occurs, the Injection status is set to "Complete" and the Channel Status is set to "Acquisition Finished". When this data is brought into Review, "Bad Checksum" is displayed in the plot and the chromatogram is not present. Empower detects the missing checksum value during a Project Integrity Test.  If the Bad Checksum message is inaccurate, during a Project Integrity test, Empower corrects this situation by determining the correct checksum and transitioning the Channel Status to "Data Incomplete". This transition occurs even if the channel or the project is locked. Data is then visible and usable in Review after a privileged user performs the Verify Incomplete Data process.
