Two Empower projects have the same RawData directory - WKB264339

SYMPTOMS

• In the Empower EESR report, duplicate project directories are reported
• Projects with the same name have different parents—for example, Project IQC is available in March and April
• The project creation action is missing from Empower Project Audit trails
• When performing project integrity check for two project folders with the same name, integrity failures are reported
• During project backup, more RawData files are available compared with the number of acquired channels in the project

ENVIRONMENT

• All Empower versions

CAUSE

When creating a project, due to network or database issues, project creation is not completed as expected. So, the project audit trial is missing from Empower. Also, the RawData folder was not created as expected in RawData share.

Consider one of the scenarios as an example.

1. Customer created Project IQC in March month. In Empower database, the RawData share is recorded as \\serverip\IQC and a folder is created in RawData share as IQC as expected.
2. Customer created Project IQC in April month and the same is not completed as expected. In Empower database, RawData share is recorded as \\serverip\IQC and raw data is going to IQC folder created in month of March. So, whenever there is a channel ID match between March and April month projects, the raw data file from March is replaced with April month raw data channel files.

The above-mentioned behavior is recorded as CRI-5649 and is under investigation by Waters development team for further resolution.

FIX or WORKAROUND

1. Ensure that project creation audit trail is available in Empower system audit trails whenever a new project is created. If the project creation audit trial is not available, the project needs to be locked immediately and should not be used further for any data acquisition.
2. Another workaround is to avoid using the same project name under different parents. Instead of having project hierarchy as March/IQC, create project as March_IQC, and the next month as April_IQC. This will avoid this issue.
