Error : Database connection failure, ORA 12537, TNS connection closed at Empower login - WKB2613

SYMPTOMS

  • At login to Empower error shows "Database connection failure, ORA -1, ORA 12537, TNS connection closed"
  • Computer name hasn't changed since install of Empower
  • Reboot of computer does not resolve issue

ENVIRONMENT

  • Empower 3 Personal workstation

CAUSE

The ORA 12537 is an information message and means that the connection has been closed which can be for numerous reasons

FIX or WORKAROUND

  1. In Windows 7 click on Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services > Restart the OracleEmpower11g_4TNSListener service ( see screen shot)
  2. Restart OracleServiceEmpower from Control Panel > Administrative Tools > Services
  3. If error comes back again then right click on the OracleEmpower11g_4TNSListener service, click on Properties and choose "Startup Type" as "Automatic ( Delayed start)", click on Apply then Ok. See screen shot below
  4. Set Startup Type" as "Automatic ( Delayed start)", for OracleServiceEmpower services

**Note : When you set the start up type to "delayed start" it takes about 2 minutes to start the services
