Empower is slow in copying to projects - WKB227491

SYMPTOMS

• Slow performance when copying methods to projects

ENVIRONMENT

• Empower
• Enterprise
• Large number of projects

CAUSE

Customer had 14,000+ projects but did not implement any access control.

• Configuration manager performance will be slow if trying to display the project tree with large numbers of projects.
• Other functions such as copy to project will also suffer.

FIX or WORKAROUND

1. Implement access groups.
2. Limit how many projects a user will see in the tree by using the access groups.
3. Old or unused projects should be backed up, archived, and deleted.

The theoretical maximum projects in the tree view is 65,535, but in practice the higher the number of projects displayed in the tree the slower configuration manager will be.

This Empower version was FR4 and had 250,000 message center entries. Below SR3, the message center must be regularly copied and cleared.
