ANSWER
Table visibility enhancement was done for Empower 3 FR5.
Default settings for table color preferences are now as follows: table backgrounds are light gray, table grid lines are gray, selected table rows are dark gray, the text in the selected rows is black, and non-editable cells are light gray. Tables from Report Publisher have a transparent background by default.
Note: With Empower 3 SR5, saved table color preferences are replaced with these new default settings. Other table preferences are not changed. Waters recommends that you revise the table color preferences and set them as needed for your workflow.
