CAUSE

Name of the computer was changed

FIX or WORKAROUND

There are two options. One undoes the name change. The other configures Empower to work with the changed name.

Option A (Undo PC name change)

  1. Open the TNSname.ora file (c:\Empower\Oracle\Oracle11g\network\admin\tnsnames.ora and confirm the host name entry).
  2. Right-click Computer > Select Properties to access the computer name.
  3. Compare the Host name in the TNSnames.ora file to the computer name.
  4. Restore the computer name to what it was when you installed Empower.

Option B (configure Empower to work with new PC name)

  1. Right-click Computer > Select Properties to access the computer name.
  2. Open CLIENT configuration file C:\Empower\Oracle\Oracle11gClient_2\network\admin\tnsnames.ora with Notepad (path number "..._2" may be different depending on the Oracle version installed, for example FR3 is "..._4").
  3. Inspect the name listed after HOST = . Ensure that it matches the computer name.
    If it does not, you must change it and save file tnsnames.ora in the same location (do not change the characters after SERVICE_NAME =).
  4. Open SERVER configuration file C:\Empower\Oracle\Oracle11g_2\NETWORK\ADMIN\sqlnet.ora with Notepad.
  5. Change computer name after TCP.INVITED_NODES to match the new hostname, it should look like the following, and then save the file:
    SQLNET.AUTHENTICATION_SERVICES = (NONE)
    TCP.VALIDNODE_CHECKING = YES
    TCP.INVITED_NODES = (localhost,NewComputerName)
  6. Restart OracleEmpower11g_2TNSListener service. (the service name may also have a different number depending on the Oracle version installed)
  7. Log in to Empower (Empower asks for time zone as a new node is created).
  8. Delete chromatographic systems related to the old computer name. (Note: click on Delete, not Delete All.)
  9. Create chromatographic system. (Note: Select connect to existing system by clicking Back button twice.)
