ABPR pressure fault - WKB109788

Article number: 109788

SYMPTOMS

  • ABPR (in SFC-Prep system) pressure fault

ENVIRONMENT

  • SFC Prep 15
  • SFC Prep 30
  • SFC Prep 100
  • SFC Prep 150AP
  • Investigator SFC System
  • MV-10
  • ABPR

CAUSE

There are many causes of pressure fault in ABPR.

  • CO2 cylinder is running out
  • The pump and cooling function of the cooling circulation device (chiller) are not working properly.
  • There is a visual CO2 leak between the CO2 pump and the inside of ABPR.
  • Pulsating flow occurs with the CO2 pump
  • Deterioration of ABPR needles and seats (deterioration of consumable parts)
  • ABPR misalignment

FIX or WORKAROUND

If ABPR pressure failure is seen, it is necessary to check the following.

The items are listed so that they can be easily checked from the top.

  1. Confirm that there is no visual CO2 leakage around the system tubings and inside the ABPR. CO2 leakage that can be seen or heard is fatal. If there is a leak, fix it.
  2. Check the value of "ABPR Needle Position" in Inlet Method of MassLynx. This value allows you to quickly check the status of the internal state of ABPR. It can be determined as the liquid is delivered at the maximum flow rate of the system (Co-Solvent: set at 5% to 10%). ABPR Needle Position values:
    • 100 or less ・ ・ ・ ABPR needle, seat deterioration
    • 1500 or more (Default maximum value: 1800) ・ ・ ・ Clogging inside ABPR
  3. Check the remaining level of the CO2 cylinder. Basically, the CO2 cylinder has a dedicated scale. There are various sizes of CO2 cylinders, it is recommended to use up to 2/3 of the maximum content for any size. Since the CO2 cylinders used with the supercritical system are siphon type, the internal pressure decreases as the internal content decreases, and the state of CO2 degenerates. For example, in the case of a cylinder containing 30 kg CO2, replace with a new one when there is only 10 kg remaining in it .
  4. Check the condition of the cooling circulation device (chiller). It is the cooling device that cools the pump head of the CO2 pump. It prevents the vaporization of CO2 inside the CO2 pump head. When the CO2 evaporated, the CO2 pump cannot run normally, which causes a malfunction in ABPR.
  5. Make sure that the needle of the internal pressure regulator (MBPR) of the GLS (gas-liquid separator) is not swinging.   If the needle of this pressure regulator is swinging, there is a problem with the operation of ABPR or the state of CO2.   Also, make sure that no liquid has accumulated inside the GLS (Gas-Liquid Separator). Make sure the MBPR pressure is at least 20psi. The pressure of MBPR changes depending on the measurement conditions, but it does not fall below 20 psi under normal measurement conditions.
