Stop flow input activated - WKB92870

Article number: 92870

SYMPTOMS

  • Solvent manager displays a “Stop flow input activated” error message.

  • Resetting the pump clears the error. Priming the pump is allowed. However, when flow is set on the pump, the error reoccurs.

ENVIRONMENT

  • ACQUITY UPLC H-Class
  • ACQUITY UPLC I-Class
  • ACQUITY QDa Mass Detector
  • Xevo TQ-S micro

CAUSE

The detector QDa is not in “Operate” mode.

FIX or WORKAROUND

There are three options to resolve the issue –

  1. Put the QDa into “Operate” mode on a system configured with the QDa.

  2. Create a system without the QDa.

    1. Power down the QDa.

    2. Remove the QDa from the flow path to ensure that the source is not flooding.

    3. Cap the QDa probe.

    4. Insert a waste tubing from the detector output (TUV, FLR, PDA, and so on) to the waste bottle.

  3. Use a Divert valve to divert flow to waste instead of to the QDa.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

The error is a safety feature activated to protect the mass spectrometer’s ion source. When the QDa is not in “Operate” mode, sending flow to QDa floods the ion source. Therefore, the system prevents the pump from sending flow through the system, which protects the ion source when the detector is not in “Operate” mode.
