Low sensitivity when using APGC 2 - WKB81542

SYMPTOMS

• Customer sees reduced signal in methods.
• Waters SSTM shows poor signal.

ENVIRONMENT

APGC

CAUSE

Column not in correct position in APGC ion chamber.  

Ferrule holding column at heater transfer line in GC oven has become loose, and column end had worked back into heater transfer line.

FIX or WORKAROUND

Replace ferrule at heater transfer line fitting and fit column according to the user guide. Atmospheric Pressure GC Operator’s Guide Supplement.

Ensure the correct size ferrule is fitted to the column.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Due to the oven temperature being cycled during normal usage the metal connections within the GC oven will expand and contract eventually leading to leaks.
