How to use ion energy settings on the Xevo TQ-XS - WKB63736

Article number: 63736

OBJECTIVE or GOAL

Use ion energy settings on the Xevo TQ-XS to achieve maximum sensitivity in positive ion and negative ion modes.

ENVIRONMENT

  • Xevo TQ-XS
  • Xevo TQ-S Micro

PROCEDURE

1. In positive ion mode: increase Ion Energy 1 to -0.2 - 0.5 and Ion Energy 2 to 1.0 - 2.0.
2. In negative ion mode: increase Ion Energy 1 to 0.5 - 1.0 and Ion Energy 2 to 1.0 - 2.0.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

The original Ion Energy settings, set by IntelliStart, do not always give the best sensitivity in the long term. Upon utilization of the instrument, higher Ion Energy settings may be required to maintain optimal sensitivity. When you suspect a decrease in sensitivity, it may be useful to check the Ion Energy settings by infusing a compound. Using the sliders in the Tune page, you can optimize for sensitivity. Increasing the ion energies too much may lead to spectral peak broadening. Therefore, it is important to find a compromise between sensitivity and spectral resolution. Bear in mind that, in most cases, Ion Energy settings are higher in negative ion mode than in positive ion mode.
