Cannot operate MS instrument fitted with UniSpray source enclosure - WKB45025
SYMPTOMS
- Tune page does not recognize that the UniSpray source is fitted
- Collision gas flow control slider is not present on the tune page
- Control over the collision gas flow rate during acquisition is compromised
- MS instrument fitted with API source enclosure and ESI probe can be controlled as expected
ENVIRONMENT

CAUSE
Either not officially supported or bugs in the software, including lack of automatic recognition of the UniSpray source
FIX or WORKAROUND
Resolved for Xevo TQ-S in SCN 997 and subsequent software - see article What is the latest version of MassLynx required for a Xevo TQ-S? - WKB5508
Workaround for earlier versions and for Synapt XS:
- Fit the UniSpray source enclosure.
- Manually select ESI+ or ESI- in the source drop-down list of the tool bar menu on the MS tune page.
- Use the "capillary" voltage slider to control the impactor voltage.
- Note the Experimental record with record the ion mode as ESI and hte impactor voltage as capillary voltage
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
CRI-8750 has been created for this issue on Waters Connect including W_C 4.0. Driver 1.7 and below
The workaround for Masslynx also works in W_C but additionally if the LND (workstation LND reset or network reset) has to be reset it will trigger the issue again and require the workaround to be completed again
