No beam or solution seen when pumping from fluidics bottle C on the Xevo G2-XS QTof - WKB24596

Article number: 24596

SYMPTOMS

  • No beam when pumping from fluidics bottle C to the sample probe
  • No solvent seen when disconnecting the line to the probe while pumping from C
  • Purged many times
  • A beam is seen on the reference probe using the fluidics
  • No beam is seen when pumping from A, B, or C using the sample fluidics
  • Clogged fluidics valve

CAUSE

The sample or diverter valve is clogged.

FIX or WORKAROUND

  1. Label the tubing going into the sample (middle) valve.
  2. Disconnect the tubing.
  3. Unscrew the three screws that secure the front face of the valve (stator).

  1. Flush the rotor (brown disk with curved groves that sits behind the stator) using a spray bottle and methanol.
  2. Take an Eppendorf syringe and a 1-mL tip and suck up a mL of methanol or methanol/water. Push the solution through all seven ports. Make sure the solution sprays out of the back side in a nice stream. If it sputters, repeat spraying through that port.
  3. Rebuild the valve, putting the stator back on, and then give each screw one turn before going back to screwing the first screw in again. It must be tightened evenly.
  4. Connect the tubing.
  5. Purge three times with IPA to get rid of air bubbles.
  6. Purge two times with the sample solution in C.
  7. Check for a beam

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

The same can be done for the diverter (right) valve or the lockspray (left) valve.
