CAUSE
The sample or diverter valve is clogged.
FIX or WORKAROUND
- Label the tubing going into the sample (middle) valve.
- Disconnect the tubing.
- Unscrew the three screws that secure the front face of the valve (stator).
- Flush the rotor (brown disk with curved groves that sits behind the stator) using a spray bottle and methanol.
- Take an Eppendorf syringe and a 1-mL tip and suck up a mL of methanol or methanol/water. Push the solution through all seven ports. Make sure the solution sprays out of the back side in a nice stream. If it sputters, repeat spraying through that port.
- Rebuild the valve, putting the stator back on, and then give each screw one turn before going back to screwing the first screw in again. It must be tightened evenly.
- Connect the tubing.
- Purge three times with IPA to get rid of air bubbles.
- Purge two times with the sample solution in C.
- Check for a beam
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
The same can be done for the diverter (right) valve or the lockspray (left) valve.
