How to establish or reset Communication on Xevo mass spectrometer in MassLynx - WKB21843

OBJECTIVE or GOAL

Reset or establish COMMS on a Xevo MS (except Xevo TQD and TQ-S micro).

  • Xevo TQ MS
  • Xevo TQ-S
  • Xevo G2-S
  • Xevo G2-XS

PROCEDURE

  1. Set the MassLynx software in Standby mode.
  2. Activate the TURBO Pump override switch on the back of  Xevo (active position is the down position).
  3. Exit MassLynx.
  4. Reboot the MassLynx computer
  5. Power-off all UHPLC devices in the stack, with the sample manager last.
  6. Deactivate the Electronics switch on the back of the Xevo (place switch in down position).
  7. Log in to the Windows OS on the computer.
  8. Open the DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) server and remove all the devices.
  9. Turn on the devices in the ACQUITY UHPLC stack, starting with the sample manager.
  10. Reactivate the electronic switch on the back of the Xevo (place switch in up position).
  11. Wait for DHCP to completely populate all the devices. Waters recommends that you turn on only one device at a time and wait for DHCP to populate it, and then repeat until all the devices are listed with serial numbers and IP addresses.
  12. Use DOS CMD window:
  13. Optional: type "telnet_EPC" to ping the EPC.
  14. Optional DOS CMD prompt: type "i" and press enter to watch readbacks in DOS format.
  15. Optional:  type "chime" to listen for audible sound emitted from EPC.
  16. Close DOS CMD window.
  17. Open MassLynx program.
  18. Open the Diagnostics tab on the MassLynx Tune page. (Pump override will say "active".)
  19. Deactivate TURBO Pump Override. (Place the pump override switch in the UP position.) Observe the Diagnostics tab on the Tune page; pump override will say "inactive".
  20. A "system present" message should appear in the MassLynx Sample List window.
