SYMPTOMS

  • When infusing sample, see many more sodiated [M+Na]+ or [M+23]+ ions than protonated [M+H]+ or [M+1]+ ions
  • Peak of interest is 22 Da higher than expected for singly charged ions

CAUSE

High sodium, salt, or soap contamination in the source enclosure area

FIX or WORKAROUND

  1. Wipe down the source enclosure with methanol.
  2. Infuse 90/10 water/methanol + 1% formic acid.
  3. Clean the cone and baffle (if there is one).
  4. clean the ion block if needed.
