John Guest check valve causes Source Pressure Test fails - WKB12207

SYMPTOMS

Instrument exhibits any or all of the following symptoms:

• Source pressure test fail
• Source pressure test warning
• High exhaust warning on QDa instrument
• Source pressure test fails with the message 'check source and exhaust seals' on Vion IMS QTof
• Source Pressure too low
• Hissing sound from the trap bottle

CAUSE

Blocked, broken or faulty John Guest check valve at the Waste Trap Bottle.

FIX or WORKAROUND

1. Open the instrument's source enclosure.
2. Remove John Guest check valve from the Waste Trap Bottle assembly, taking note of the arrow position. 
   
3. Shake the John Guest check valve. Ensure that you hear a ball moving inside the check valve.
   
4. In some cases, sonicating the John Guest check valve in 50:50 Methanol/Water for a few minutes can resolve the issue.
5. Refit the check valve with the arrow pointing down, close source enclosure, and carry out source pressure test.
6. Replace John Guest check valve if needed (part number: 6063338).
