FLR flow cell leaks after changing flow path in mass spectrometer - WKB118285

Article number: 118285

SYMPTOMS

  • FLR flow cell leaks after changing flow path in mass spectrometer

ENVIRONMENT

  • SQ Detector 2
  • ACQUITY UPLC FLR Detector
  • ACQUITY UPLC

CAUSE

Pressure inside the FLR flow cell temporarily exceeds bursting point when diverter valve on MS changes flow path.

FIX or WORKAROUND

  1. FLR detectors should always be the last device in an LC system (see user manual).
  2. If an MS is also in the system, a flow splitting device should be used to send some flow to the MS and some to the FLR.
    • Fit a PEEK Micro Tee and ACQUITY Tubing kit (700004068 + 700004067) after the column (or another LC detector such as PDA) to split the flow.
  3. The FLR outlet should flow to waste via a normal back pressure regulator, such as blue PEEK tubing.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

Certain glycan methods have been set up without a splitter, but they use lower flow rates to prevent spikes in back pressure.
