FLR flow cell leaks after changing flow path in mass spectrometer - WKB118285

SYMPTOMS
- FLR flow cell leaks after changing flow path in mass spectrometer
ENVIRONMENT
- SQ Detector 2
- ACQUITY UPLC FLR Detector
- ACQUITY UPLC
CAUSE
Pressure inside the FLR flow cell temporarily exceeds bursting point when diverter valve on MS changes flow path.
FIX or WORKAROUND
- FLR detectors should always be the last device in an LC system (see user manual).
- If an MS is also in the system, a flow splitting device should be used to send some flow to the MS and some to the FLR.
- Fit a PEEK Micro Tee and ACQUITY Tubing kit (700004068 + 700004067) after the column (or another LC detector such as PDA) to split the flow.
- The FLR outlet should flow to waste via a normal back pressure regulator, such as blue PEEK tubing.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Certain glycan methods have been set up without a splitter, but they use lower flow rates to prevent spikes in back pressure.
