Loose gas cone on TQ Detector following cleaning of gas cone or ion block - WKB115091

SYMPTOMS

  • Loose gas cone
  • Loose cone gas position block
  • Unable to pump down the system after cleaning the cone
  • System pumps down with the isolation valve closed
  • Lower cone bracket is not flush with the ion block

ENVIRONMENT

  • TQ Detector
  • ACQUITY TQD system
  • SQ Detector 2
  • Xevo TQD
  • Xevo TQ-S Micro

CAUSE

  • Missing or incorrectly stacked Belleville spring washers
  • Screw holding Belleville springs/cone gas position block requires tightening.

FIX or WORKAROUND

  1. Pay attention to the orientation of the curved washers. To determine their arrangement, imagine that
    the washers are parentheses. Arrange them in this manner: ( ) ( ). Four per side for a total of eight.
  2. Install the Belleville spring washers (700003080).
  3. Tighten the screw that holds the cone gas position block and ensure that the sample cone can be correctly installed.
  4. Confirm that the system can hold vacuum with the source isolation valve open.
