SYMPTOMS

  • Sodium iodide powder dissolved in 50:50 isopropanol/water turns yellow

CAUSE

  1. Aged reagent
  2. Undissolved reagent

FIX or WORKAROUND

  1. If a previously clear NaI solution has turned yellow due to aging, do not use it any more
  2. If the reagent is new, leave it at room temperature overnight to make sure it is clear. A clear sodium iodide solution can be used for calibration.
