Cannot pump down mass spectrometer- WKB107012

SYMPTOMS

• MS vented
• Turbo Controller Fault error message
• Low vacuum error message
• The MS does not pump down, even after reboot
• No response from the roughing pump when attempting to pump down the MS 
• Roughing pump oil level and viscosity are okay
• 24V from backing control cable measured and is good

ENVIRONMENT

• Xevo TQD
• SQD2
• Xevo TQ MS
• 3100 Mass Detector
• Xevo G2-XS

CAUSE

Faulty roughing pump 

FIX or WORKAROUND

Replace the roughing pump:

• Xevo TQD/SQD2: part 186006347 - Leybold SV40 Roughing Pump
• SQD2: part 410003281 - Edwards XDS46i scroll pump
• Xevo TQ MS: part 700004717 - Varian 602 Rotary pump
• 3100: Source refurbished roughing pump from ETSC.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

A full system reboot including the PC was attempted before changing the roughing pump. 

1. Turn all modules off, including the MS.
2. Stop MassLynx processes, reboot the PC, and then turn modules on one at a time.
3. Allow the MS to finish its boot sequence before opening MassLynx to try pumping the instrument down again.
