2414 Refractive Index Detector: Does the negative peak appear because the refractive index of the sample is smaller than that of the solvent? - WKB90988
Article number: 90988
ENVIRONMENT
- 2414 Refractive Index Detector
ANSWER
In the case of the 2414 detector, the correlation between the refractive indexes of the solvent in the reference cell, and the solvent & sample flowing to the sample cell determines the positive/negative of the peak.
It cannot be predicted by simply comparing the refractive indexes of the solvent and the sample because it is a tradeoff with the solvent in the reference cell during run.
The detection principles are described in Chapter 1 of the linked document in “ADDITIONAL INFORMATION”.
