Error: sample temperature sensor h/w fault - WKB88558
SYMPTOMS
- ACQUITY external column heater/cooler gives an error of "over-temperature" or "sample temperature sensor H/W fault" when trying to heat to 40 °C
ENVIRONMENT
- H-Class ACQUITY SM-FTN
- I-Class ACQUITY SM-FL
- I-Class ACQUITY SM-FTN
- ACQUITY UPC2 SM
CAUSE
When operating at lower ambient temperatures and then heating to 40 °C, the CPSM may trigger a false "sample temperature sensor h/w fault" or "over-temperature" error when on firmware 1.60.
FIX or WORKAROUND
Upgrade firmware to at least 1.65. This corrects the heat sink temperature limit of 50 °C and raises it to 54 °C. This provides the required margin while operating in low ambient conditions.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Observe the heat sink and sample temperature channels in the console software. If the heat sink temperature reaches 50 °C before the sample temperature reaches the programmed set point of 40 °C, the error is triggered. Firmware 1.65 corrects this issue by increasing the heat sink limit to 54 °C.
