Only the Sample Manager (SM) shows up in the Inlet Editor additional status tab for an ACQUITY M-Class or nanoACQUITY - WKB7864

Article number: 7864

SYMPTOMS

  • Only the Sample Manager (SM) shows up in the Inlet Editor additional status tab for an ACQUITY M-Class or nanoACQUITY
  • Usually happens just after the instrument configuration is changed or switched. (Select this link for the proper instrument configuration and start from step 11.)

ENVIRONMENT

  • MassLynx 4.1 or 4.2
  • ACQUITY M-Class configuration
  • nanoACQUITY configuration

CAUSE

Configuration is incomplete. This is part of the normal setup. The system is waiting to be configured in the console.

FIX or WORKAROUND

  1. Bring up MassLynx.

  2. Open the Inlet Method Editor

  3. Configure the LC:

            Pump: Waters Pump Control

            Sample Mgr: None

Detector: n/a or TUV, if applicable

  4. Finish the configuration utility. Be patient. If it gives a Server Busy error, click Retry.

  5. Open the Inlet Method Editor. It will give a pump error (bottom indicator, OK goes red, Ready stays green). Ignore it.

  6. If a box that says "Click 'Instrument Setup' to complete the configuration" pops up, click OK.

  7. When the Inlet Method restarts, it may give a pump error (bottom indicator, OK goes red, Ready stays green. Ignore it.

  8. Click on the additional status tab. There may be only one module (sample manager) present.

  9. Click the blue circle with the A in it. This brings up the ACQUITY console. (You can also open the console from the MassLynx window.)

  10. While ensuring that the LCMS System in the left panel is highlighted, click on the Configure drop-down menu.

  11. Select Configure Instrument Modules. For an M-Class, ensure that TVM is selected and click OK. If an Aux Solvent Manager is in use, select it. Even if nothing is changed, click OK.

  12. Select OK to restart the console. The console comes up with all modules present. At this point, the Trap Valve Manager might be on top of your Solvent Bottle holder. This can be rearranged later.

  13. Exit the console and the Inlet method. Do not save the changes to "untitled" methods. Once you exit, you may get a Windows error saying that the Inlet Editor MFC Application has stopped working. Close the program, and then exit MassLynx.

  14. Run StopACQUITYProcesses or reboot the PC.

  15. Restart MassLynx and open the Inlet Editor.

All functionality is now restored. At this point, if the instrument modules need to be rearranged (if TVM is on top of your solvents, for example), go back into the ACQUITY console. Once again, with ACQUITY UPLC System selected from the tree on the left in the console, select the Configure drop-down menu. Select Arrange Instrument Modules. Click and drag the various modules to where they should be.
