Can DMSO be used as a mobile phase additive on an M-Class system? - WKB65133

Article number: 65133

ENVIRONMENT

  • ACQUITY UPLC M-Class

ANSWER

DMSO is an acceptable mobile phase additive on the ACQUITY M-Class, in very small percentages, but not for extended use. To clarify, DMSO is not recommended with PEEK components. The M-Class has an I-Class PEEKsil needle of 10 µL (700005926). See the alternative below.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

An additional option (rather than using DMSO in the mobile phase and running through the entire system) would be to introduce DMSO through post-column addition. This requires the use of a secondary pump (ASM) and a Post Column Addition iKey, but it minimizes any potential adverse effects the DMSO might have on the M-Class system in the long term and would not affect chromatography of any hydrophilic compounds because  the DMSO is only introduced inside the PCA iKey post-column.
