Error: Failed to calibrate system volume - WKB200904

SYMPTOMS

• Cannot characterize needle and loop volumes - Error occurs around 2.8 minutes.
• All console leak tests pass
• Air sensor calibration passes
• New needle and loop have been correctly installed, volumes are correct and system is well primed.

ENVIRONMENT

• ACQUITY UPLC Sample Manager

CAUSE

Puncture pin is blocked - air bubble cannot be drawn through tubing to measure system volumes

FIX or WORKAROUND

1. Close Masslynx.
2. Remove plates.
3. Power off sample manager and manually move the needle carriage to front left of the sample manager.
4. Remove needle from carriage and leave hanging in sample compartment.
5. Use T6 tool to remove the puncture pin - loosen grub screw and slide the puncture pin downwards, out of carriage assembly.
6. Clean puncture pin physically with thin tool, or sonicate in solvent.
7. Reassemble needle carriage.
8. Power on Sample manager.
9. Open MassLynx.
10. Run Characterize needle and loop volumes in console.
