SYMPTOMS

• Error observed on detector: "Light level error. Ref. Saturated. Cycle Power"
• Also: calibration out of range
• Flow not run for a few weeks

ENVIRONMENT

• 2489 UV/Vis Detector

CAUSE

The flow cell was dry upon initialization.

FIX or WORKAROUND

1. Before you power-on the detector, start a flow of 100% methanol at 2.0 mL/min and allow it to run for about 15 minutes.
2. Be sure not to exceed 1000 psi back pressure without a column.
3. Flush at least 10 minutes.
4. Power-on the detector and wait until initialization and wavelength verification are completed.
