Leak from mixer outlet (ACQUITY UPLC) - WKB10007

SYMPTOMS

  • Mobile phase leaks from mixer outlet to the inject valve

CAUSE

Under- or overtightened connection on the mixer outlet.

FIX or WORKAROUND

  1. Stop flow, then use a wrench to hold the mixer stationary while using the 1/4" wrench for the compression connection to disconnect the leaking connection from the mixer. Inspect the fitting and compression ferrule for signs of damage or wear. Then remake the connection into the mixer using finger-tight to thread in a far as possible then use the wrenches to finish tightening the fitting (1/8 turn beyond finger tight).  In the case of under-tighten of the fitting, it is very possible to remake the connection and seal the leak.  Upon inspection, replace any parts of concern as listed in steps 2 and/or 3. If there is issue with getting the connection to come apart for inspection or threading of the fitting in/out of the mixer is not easily done, replace parts listed both in steps 2 and 3. 
  2. If mixer is not damaged, replace tubing from pump outlet to inject valve:
    • ACQUITY UPLC- 430001486
    • ACQUITY UPLC I-Class - 430002901
    • ACQUITY UPLC H-Class - 430002452 (standard), 430002473 (Bio)
    • ACQUITY Premier - 700012305 MP35N
  3. If mixer is damaged, also replace the mixer assembly:
    • ACQUITY UPLC 700002911
    • ACQUITY UPLC I-Class - 700005341
    • ACQUITY UPLC H-Class - 700005119 (standard), 700005258 (Bio)
    • ACQUITY Premier - 700012635 (50uL) (Bio)
