HPLC CONNECT supports control of Agilent HPLC pump, autosampler, and UV-Vis detectors (MWD, DAD, VWD). With HPLC CONNECT 3 and ASTRA 8.2 or higher, fraction collector modules are also supported. The HPLC DASHBOARD application can control additional Agilent modules listed on the supported hardware list. ASTRA cannot control Agilent RI detectors during a run but can fully control Optilab RI detectors. Fraction collector parameter changes during a run are not currently supported by ASTRA.

Which Agilent modules does HPLC CONNECT support?
HPLC CONNECT allows ASTRA to control the HPLC pump, autosampler, and UV-Vis (MWD, DAD, or VWD) modules. HPLC CONNECT 3 adds fraction collector module support to this. See HPLC CONNECT Supported Hardware.pdf for a list of supported Agilent modules and information about digital UV support.
The HPLC DASHBOARD (a standalone application) can control other Agilent modules as long as they are on the list of supported modulesolled (for example purge turned on and off) as long as it is on this list. ASTRA will not be able to control the Agilent RI and cannot, for example, purge at the end of a run. ASTRA has full control over an Optilab RI detector.
Fraction collector support is only available for ASTRA 8.2 and higher with HPLC CONNECT 3. For HPLC CONNECT 2, there are several models of fraction collector listed as supported and if a specific collector is on the list, HPLC DASHBOARD might have access to this extended functionality via the Actions “Control…” Depending on what parameters are necessary for a run, it might be possible to set initial parameters that would be set at run start. However, ASTRA would not be able to perform fraction collector parameter changes while the run is in progress. This is a current feature request.
For the other types of Agilent detectors on the supported module list, the control would be what the Agilent API makes available to HPLC DASHBOARD. The functions would be similar to what a Instant Pilot allowed. Currently, ASTRA does not support any modules besides the HPLC pump, autosampler, MWD/VWD/DAD, and in ASTRA 8.2 and higher with HPLC CONNECT 3, fraction collectors.
