How do I configure email notifications in NuGenesis LMS? - WKB8417

OBJECTIVE or GOAL

To configure NuGenesis LMS so that it can send email notifications to users.

ENVIRONMENT

• NuGenesis 8 ELN
• NuGenesis 8 LMS
• NuGenesis 9 LMS

PROCEDURE

1. Log in to the LMS client with a user account that has Write permissions on the System Configuration
2. Go to the Administration page > System > Messaging
3. Type the hostname or IP address of the SMTP server in your domain. If you do not know the SMTP server name, see the KCS article "How do I get the primary email server for a domain?"
4. Select the checkbox "Automatically send notification by email" so that emails will be sent in addition to messages through the LMS Inbox
5. If changes were made to the configuration, click Apply and OK. Otherwise, click Cancel to return to the Administration page
6. Click User Management
7. Click the Users tab on the right
8. Ensure that all active user accounts have their correct email address. Users are not able to receive emails from LMS if their email address is not typed correctly within LMS User Management
9. LMS can send automatic emails upon certain events in the system, such as releasing a Request in Sample Management. LMS uses the email address attached to the SYSTEM account as the From address for the automatic emails.  This email address must be a valid account in the domain, and preferably, be a "no-reply" type of account
10. Ensure that the LMS Job Manager and Scheduler services are started, and set to Automatic start, on one LMS server.  If the LMS Job Manager services is not started then the emails won't be sent

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

In many cases, mail servers will be set to filter out emails where the From and To addresses are the same.  Such a configuration should be avoided when testing email notifications.
