Users are prompted for administrator credentials when previewing reports or restoring files from NuGenesis SDMS - WKB69283

SYMPTOMS

• Users are prompted for administrator credentials when opening reports or downloading files from NuGenesis.
• The application name as seen in the advanced tab is "NGipvw.exe".

ENVIRONMENT

• NuGenesis 9 SDMS
  • Versions 9.0, 9.0.1
• User Account Control (UAC) is active in Windows

CAUSE

The NGipvw.exe program is incorrectly flagged in its internal manifest as requiring administrator privileges.

FIX or WORKAROUND

1. The NuGenesis development team has supplied a version of NGipvw.exe that does not have this flag. Users are not prompted for administrator rights when using the modified NGipvw.exe.  Contact Waters technical support for a copy of the hotfix
2. Defect CRI-682 was filed for this issue
3. This issue is fixed in NuGenesis 9.0.2 and 9.1
4. The equivalent program in NuGenesis 8 - NG80ipvw.exe - does not have this flag in its manifest. NG8 is not affected by this issue.
