ANSWER

At a high level, the goal of the interface is to transfer results from SDMS printed reports into the LMS Sample Management system. Correctly linking and copying the results requires a lot of parts and processes.

To start, here is a list of the components of the LMS-SDMS Interface:

  • Template and Smart Builder Plugins - The LMS document template includes a working example of a Smart Builder form that can transfer results from SDMS to LMS.  The form requires a few plugin DLLs for Smart Builder.  The DLLS are typically copied to the users' clients
  • SDMS Interface - installs the "NuGenesis LMS SDMS Interface Service" service which extracts metadata from SDMS extraction template output files (XML) and inserts the data into the Instrument Hub tables in the Elnprod schema
  • Metadata Export - installs the SDMS Metadata Export Console and Service. This tool is similar to the Record Router but with reduced features. It checks for new records in SDMS projects and runs extraction templates on the data, producing XML output files, which are used by the SDMS Interface service. Is the "NuGenesis SDMS Metadata Export" service.

Here is a brief description of the workflow:

  1. A user prints a report to UNIFY. The report contains some test results. The report is stored in the SDMS database.
  2. The "NuGenesis SDMS Metadata Export" service finds the new record in SDMS. The service searches the SDMS regularly for new records per the "rules" configured in the Metadata Export Console. It runs an SDMS Extraction Template on the record and stores the output as an XML file in a specified folder.
  3. The "NuGenesis LMS SDMS Interface Service" service finds the XML file from step 2 and stores the contents in the Oracle DB in the elnprod.instrumenthub table.
  4. The Results wizard in the LMS form looks for records in elnprod.instrumenthub table where the analysissystem = SDMS. The distinct entries in the analysismethod column become entries in the Analysis Method list in the Results Wizard.
  5. The results can be stored only in the form, or also stored in Sample Management. Data is saved as Result metadata in LMS, and copied to Sample Management when the section or document status matches the Form Sample Repository section metadata.
